Mix Tape for Driving
Top 10 Driving Tracks (click to open in Spotify)
The perfect driving track has to balance movement & monotony.
Being on the road is a “monotonous movement” that should be
reflected in the rhythm of the song – restless yet static.
Lyrics should ideally describe being in motion or dreaming about
movement. Yet, there are songs that are so perfectly fitted to this
state of mind and body that the subject matter doesn’t matter.
1.Hallogallo -NEU! 2. Driving at Night – Joe Satriani 3.Crosstown Traffic – Jimi Hendrix 4.Goin’ Out West – Tom Waits 5.Have Love Will Travel – The Sonics 6.The Trance of Travel – To Rococo Rot 7.Aéro Dynamic – Kraftwerk 8.I’m Deranged – David Bowie 9.The Passenger – Iggy Pop 10. Further On Up the Road – Johnny Cash

Mix Tape: All-time Cover Songs
The criteria for making the list of top 10 cover songs:The original has to be a great song, the artist has to cover it in a way that make the artist´s own voice shine through. This rule excludes a lot of great blues/R&B/Soul covers as they tend to be very close to the original. I didn’t intend to include jazz, but Atomic’s version of Pyramid Song is too brilliant to leave out! No traditionals.
1.All along the watchtower (Dylan) – Jimi Hendrix 2.Hurt (Reznor)- Johnny Cash 3.Hallelujah (Cohen) – Jeff Buckley 4. Black Steel (Public Enemy) – Tricky 5.Pyramid song (Radiohead) – Atomic 6.I fought the law (Bobby Fuller)- The Clash 7.Break my body (Pixies)- Hanne Hukkelberg 8.Darkness, darkness (Youngbloods)- Robert Plant 9 Take me to the River (Al Green) – Talking Heads 10. Hush (Joe South) – Deep Purple
2011 has been a pretty nondescript year in the history of (popular) music. Still managed to scrape together 10 favorites. One selected track from each album:
1. The Piano Drop – Tim Hecker 2. Tennessee – Gillian Welch 3. Bad as Me – Tom Waits 4. Your fake name..- Iron & Wine 5. Morning Mr.Magpie – Radiohead 6. The Words that Maketh Murder – PJ Harvey 7. Long Burn the Fire – Beastie Boys 8.Lonely Boy – The Black Keys 9. Nascente – Céu 10. Reverso- Noto/Sakamoto
